Taking Out the Trash and Recycling

by Krysta Gibson

When you take out your trash and recycling, you can use this time to let go of anything in your life that you no longer want or need. When I throw things away, I use it as a symbol of letting go of what I no longer need. When I take out the trash or recycling, I ask that anything I no longer need or want be carried away when the trash is removed.

If you have certain things you know you want to release, certain relationships, ideas, attitudes, or habits, you can actually name them and pretend to throw them in the trash can. This feels really great to do and it does assist in letting these things move through your life.

Some people like to write down the things they want to change and then burn the paper in the fireplace. This also works. The reason I enjoy using the trash is because someone else carries things away for me. This reminds me of how easy it is to let things go. I don’t have to effort over it. All I have to do is put it in the trash can and my sanitation engineer takes it to the dump for me.

This might be a lazy way to get rid of what I don’t want but it surely is effective and fun, too.

To help our planet, besides recycling, try to use less in the first place. Try to avoid buying things with extra packaging when you can or find a way to reuse the packaging. There are many places in the world that don’t have the need to package everything the way we do in the United States. Maybe it is time for us to rethink this so we don’t need to recycle so much.
